  “Hey!” she squeaked, when she was finally up and could pin him with a glare. “Just because I think you’re hot doesn’t mean you can ogle me all the time.”

  Limes put up his hands. “Fine, fine. Excuse me for trying to be a gentleman.”

  “Gentlemen don’t stare at ladies’ asses,” she snapped.

  “This one does,” Limes retorted with a grin as he shut the door and walked around to open his. “Although there’s only one lady’s ass I like to perv on.”

  When they were on the freeway, he spoke up again. “When we get home, I’m installing a security system.”

  “Do you have to call someone to hook that up?”

  He shook his head. “I’m our tech guy. I can do it. We don’t always do it, but I want you to feel extra safe.” He shook his head. “You have a weird effect on guys. They’re extra creepy around you.”

  She shrugged. “I guess I don’t know how it is for other women.” She looked over at him. “Do you?”

  “I guess not,” he said, staring at the road. “But still, something seems off about it.” He was quiet for a moment. It was already getting dark outside since they’d left work late and had sex after as well. “But yeah, it’ll be a security system equipment wise, but it won’t be hooked up to a monitoring company because I’ll be monitoring it.   “No,” Limes said. “But I haven’t done much fieldwork before, remember? I’m not taking any chances where you’re concerned.”

  There was that warm, happy feeling again when he acted protective of her. She’d never met a man like that. She had to be careful or she was going to lose her heart to him. And she didn’t plan to ever hand that much control over to a man in her life.

  They arrived at her place, and he parked a house down, like he had before, and walked her up the front steps.

  “I need a house key,” he said. “Do you have a copy?”

  She shook her head. “I never needed one. I mean, there may be one around, but I wouldn’t know where.”

  “We’ll go make one tomorrow.”

  She unlocked the front door, and he pushed it open for her, letting her walk under his arm. She loved how strong and capable he was.

  She wondered how expensive it would be to just hire him for life.

  But she knew that was a foolish thought. Limes might be hot and capable and great in the sack. But he didn’t seem like the type to settle down, the type looking for commitment, and she didn’t want to get hurt by hoping otherwise.

  She still didn’t even understand his attraction to her.

  She walked into the kitchen and turned on the lights. Then she stretched and remembered her odd clothing. “I’m going to go take a shower and change. That okay with you?”

  His green eyes widened, but he nodded and walked down the back hallway, emerging with a shirt on and one of his duffle bags in his hand. “I’l

  He nodded but didn’t look up. He was in his professional world now. His muscled, tattooed frame tensed in concentration as he rummaged through the bag, pulling out assorted things and arranging them on the carpet beside him.

  She loved watching him. Nothing scared her anymore. Not his nearly buzzed head—though she’d love to see that dark hair grow out—not his sharp, masculine features, not his piercing. Not his size.

  “You have to do that?” she asked.

  “I have to get them level in the sill so it knows when it opens,” he said.

  “Okay,” she said. “I’m going to start dinner. Any requests?”
